Neighborhood Mapping Project calls attention to intricacies of the cityscape. Students from area schools are led on a series of walks starting from their school. Trained guides call attention to natural and manmade elements in this everyday landscape and lead the students in documenting exercises like data collection, drawing and note-taking. Students compile this information into a series of maps. Through this process they learn strategies for and practice civic engagement. Custom browser-based apps are used to complement the walks and enable students to document experience-based data in a digital and abstracted format drawing connections between the primary spaces we occupy: the built environment, nature-scape and the metaverse.
