Segment Map

This is a porcelain recreation of the 1924 Sanborn Map of Champaign, IL.  This particular section of town experienced a decline in use after the train track bed was raised along the left (west) side in 1928.  Most of the houses imprinted on the porcelain slabs have since been torn down, while many other parts of town remain intact.  The houses in this historically African American neighborhood, today called North First Street, fell into disrepair and were deemed to be not of historical significance due to their building materials and monetary value.
